Sunday Briefing

With the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker just winding down, most of the Sunday Majors are still on hiatus. However, that’s not to suggest that there weren’t some big winners this weekend. The biggest of course came in the $109 Sunday Rebuy, where “djalminha” outlasted a field of 1,250 to claim the $76,084.25 first-place prize.

In addition to the Sunday Majors, there were WCOOP 2nd Chance tournaments running. All eyes may have been on the WCOOP Main Event, but that doesn’t mean those with a more limited bankroll weren’t excited about the 2nd Chance events, especially Kenji “Royal Jiks” T and “maccoca5,” who each took down an event.

Notable Finishes: Steve “betrthenphil” Tripp (65th - $422.75), Jonathan “MONSTER_DONG” Karamalikis (108th - $333.75), Jonathan Duhamel (269th - $189.12)

Notable Finishes: Dan “djk123” Kelly (4th), Sebastian Ruthenberg (6th), Joe Hachem (10th)

The $109 Sunday Rebuy has been consistent in surpassing its guarantee. In fact, it more than doubled it this week, as 1,250 participants accounted for 1,899 re-buys and 1,020 add-ons, creating a prize pool totaling $416,900.

Two Team PokerStars Pros final tabled the event including Javier “El_Canonero” Dominguez (4th - $31,267.50) and “gkap13” (6th - $17,718.25); however, the first-place prize of $76,084.25 went to "djalminha” who won the tournament outright.

Notable Finishes: Dylan “ImaLucSac” Linde (25th - $1,792.67), Jordan “Jymaster11” Young (43rd - $1,042.25), Liv Boeree (99th - $750.42)

Even with 154 players fewer than last week, the Bigger $109 smashed the $100,000 guarantee with 3,223 entrants creating a prize pool of $322,300. In the end, "Aloysius P57" emerged victorious, taking home the top prize of $50,923.40.

Notable Finishes: Andriy “tormos” Pavlyuk (15th - $1,933.80), Andrey “ThePateychuk” Pateychuk (68th - $515.68), Matthias “mattidm” de Meulder (92nd - $451.22)

The Bigger $162 was also down in attendance this week, but not by much. In addition, the guarantee was well-covered with with the 1,678 entrants who created a prize pool of $251,700. A heads-up deal was struck at the final table, which saw “flamenco1978” and Felipe “Improved” Montenegro make an even chop for $37,098.

Notable Finishes: Jordan “Jymaster11” Young (24th - $755.10),

The Bigger $55 saw the biggest attendance drop by 118 players this week, but the 5,407 entrants were still enough to surpass the $200,000 guarantee, creating a prize pool of $270,350. The tournament then saw a three-way chop, with “19mike77” claiming first place, but still taking home less than second-place finisher, “Chirspoker.”

Notable Finishes: Lex Veldhuis (108th- $351.45), Gualter “Gualter S.” Salles (267th- $216.28)

Unlike the majority of the Sunday Majors this week, the Sunday Storm saw a slight increase in attendance. With 30,971 entrants, a prize pool of $309,710 was created, and "monolit77" took it down, pocketing $28,981.34.

The Sunday Kickoff followed most of the other Sunday Major and saw a slight decrease in attendance. There were 89 fewer players who entered, meaning the prize pool stood at $160,200 — still more than double the guarantee. Winning it outright was “pablox55,” who took home $26,280.81 for his performance.

Notable Finishes: Cory “ProdigyXII” Desmond (11th- $1,265.58), Martin “AABenjaminAA” Hruby (22nd- $624.78
