The PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile continued on Saturday at the Enjoy Casino & Resort in Vina del Mar. The final 32 competitors from the 651-player field played down to the final table, and all eyes were on Daniela Horno. Last year, Horno finished in sixth place in this very event, and on Saturday, she began with the chip lead and was primed for back-to-back final tables.

Horno's day was not full of raking in pots. First she lost a chunk of her stack to Javier Venegas. Then during the middle of the day, action folded around to Horno on the button and she moved her 20-big-blind stack in the middle after looking down at {A-Spades}{4-Spades}. It was enough to get the small blind to fold, but not Nicholas Batt in the big blind. He was holding {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}, and made the call.

The railbirds were on their feet as the flop came down {3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Horno got a little help on the flop, but needed more. The {8-Hearts} turn was not it, and neither was the {2-Diamonds} river. Horno, who began the day as chip leader, was eliminated in 17th place for $4,180.

Action was fast and furious at the start of the day as ten players hit the rail in the first hour. They included Hector Marambio (32nd - $2,840), Rodrigo Perez (31st - $2,840), Marcelo Bustamante (30th - $2,840), Marciano Sa (29th - $2,840), Jorge Barreto (28th - $3,070), Sebastian Rios (27th - $3,070), Eduardo Zalaquett (26th - $3,070), Juan Bravo (25th - $3,070), Ricardo Gajdemski (24th - $3,320) and Rene Manzano (23rd - $3,320).

The 22nd-place finisher was eliminated in a blind-versus-blind battle. Pedro Frankel put in a raise from the small blind only to have Jorge Guerra move all in from the big blind for around 140,000 total. Frankel made the call and the cards were turned up:

Showdown

The {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} missed Guerra, though it did give him a gut-shot straight draw; however, Frankel picked up a flush draw, meaning diamonds were useless to Guerra. In the end, Frankel's ace-high prevailed as the {7-Spades} appeared on the turn followed by the {K-Clubs} on the river. Guerra was eliminated in 22nd place and took home $3,590 for his performance.

The flurry of eliminations didn’t stop there as Santiago Hernandez (21st - $3,590), Alejandro Vargas (20th - $3,860), Jorge Mascaro (19th - $3,860) and Luis Montano (18th - $4,180) were all eliminated over the course of the next level.

Rodrigo Quezada (16th - $4,510), Yacin Vasquez (15th - $4,900), Edgardo Bastias (14th - $5,360), William Espinosa (13th - $5,900), Waldermar Barrientos (12th - $6,780), Alvaro Gonzalez (11th - $7,760) and Jose Luis Golin (10th - 9,130) were the next to go, bringing about the unofficial final table of nine.

It was there that action folded to Leonardo Olivares in the cutoff and he raised to 120,000. After the button and small blind folded, Pedro Frankel moved all in from the big blind for 425,000 total, which Olivares called. Frankel turned over {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} and was up against Olivares' {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}.

The players and railbirds were on their feet as the flop came out {9-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Olivares paired his king to take the lead and left Frankel in need of some major help. The {10-Diamonds} turn certainly wasn't it, and neither was the {8-Diamonds} turn. Frankel was dispatched in ninth place for $10,690 and the 2012 LAPT Chile final table was set.

Daniela Horno

The PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile continued on Friday at the Enjoy Casino & Resort in Vina del Mar as the surviving 188 players from Days 1a and 1b combined for Day 2 action. After eight levels of play, that field was whittled down to 32 players, and Daniela Horno was leading the way.

With a prize pool of $651,840 at stake, including a $129,470 first-place prize, the players were intent on making the money, meaning they needed to finish in the top 104. The early levels of action put an end to any money dreams Carlos Perez, Juan Carlos, Odilon Machuca and Leandro Csome may have had, because they were all sent to the rail empty handed.

LAPT Season 4 Player of the Year Pablo Gonzalez, also failed to reach the money. His elimination came when he moved all in for 25,400 from the cutoff after the player in the hijack had raised to 4,800. The button got out of the way, and the small blind made the call. After the hijack folded, Gonzalez tabled {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, but was behind the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} of the small blind.

Gonzalez was in a bad spot, though the {5-Diamonds} appeared in the window; unfortunately for him, it was followed by the {Q-Diamonds} and {A-Hearts}. It was a set-over-set flop, meaning Gonzalez needed the last five in the deck to stay alive. The {7-Spades} turn was not it, and neither was the {2-Hearts}. Gonzalez was eliminated from the Main Event without a cash.

After Claudio Scandura finished as the unfortunate bubble boy and the players reached the money, the eliminations came fast. Brent Sheirbon was one of the first to hit the rail post-money bubble. It happened when he moved all in under the gun for his last 26,000. One by one his opponents folded around to the player in the big blind, who announced a call.

Showdown

Sheirbon opted to put it all in with the suited one-gappers, and it appeared to pay off when the flop came down {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Unfortunately for Sheirbon, his hope would be short lived as the dealer burned and turned the {Q-Spades}. The {3-Clubs} river changed nothing, and Sheirbon shook hands with his opponent before making his way to the payout desk in 95th place for $1,550.

Other players following Sheirbon out the door included Juan Amigo (90th - $1,550), Guillermo Pardo (64th - $2,030), Claudio Lopez (57th - $2,030) and Thiago “XTheDecanoX” Nishijima (55th - $2,180).

Daniela Horno finished sixth in the LAPT Chile Main Event last year, and is positioning herself for a deep run this year. On Day 2, a big hand developed when action folded to an unknown player in the cutoff, who put in a raise to 16,000. The player on the button then moved all in for 147,000, and Horno moved all in over the top from the small blind for around 160,000.

After the player in the cutoff got out of the way, Horno rolled over {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} and her opponent stood up and flipped over the inferior {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. The {3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop was about as unexciting as they come, and the {2-Diamonds} turn left the player on the button drawing dead. The {A-Diamonds} on the river improved Horno to a full house and she took down the healthy pot, chipping up to 320,000 in the process.

As if that wasn’t enough, a couple of hours later, action folded to Horno on the button and she opened for 25,000 in what would turn out to be the last hand of the night. Ryan O'Donnell was in the small blind and moved all in for around 160,000, and Horno made the call.

Showdown

O'Donnell was in big trouble and in desperate need of some help, which he found on the {7-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop. Suddenly Horno needed a king to eliminate her opponent, and while she didn't catch it on the {9-Diamonds} turn, she did on the river when the {K-Hearts} spiked. The railbirds reacted sharply as O'Donnell simply shook his head in disbelief. He was eliminated in 33rd place for $2,610, and Horno bagged up 767,000 and ended as the Day 2 chip leader.

End of Day 2 Top 10 Chip Counts

The 32 players will return on Saturday at 1200 CLST (0800 PDT) for Day 3, where the player will play down to a final table. As always, you can follow the action right here on PokerNews.
