Anton Makievskyi

Anton Makiievskyi is a 21-year-old student from the Ukraine who exploded out of the pack on Day 7.

Hitting a full house on the flop with K-J in a massive cooler against Chris Moore at the very end of the day, Makievskyi raked in a 20 million pot to become the new chip leader.

He hasn't looked back since.

Only receiving his travel visa in late June to come play in the WSOP, Makiievskyi is a very unlikely candidate to have made the final Nine.

"I just don't believe everything that's happening now," Makiievskyi told ESPN yesterday. "I understand that I may not have any other chances in life like this, but I don't feel it.

"I just play my game. "

He did exactly that on Day 8, gradually chipping up throughout the day with the exception of one big pot again against Moore when he hit an ace on the flop to top Moore’s pocket kings.

Throughout the last few days of the tournament, Makiievskyi has worn the baby blue and gold Team Ukraine jacket of close friend Oleksii Kovalchuk, another 21-year-old Ukrainian who won a WSOP bracelet this year.

Makiievskyi would become the youngest player to win the Main Event should he go on to take the title in November.
