The 2012 Aussie Millions Poker Championship continued Wednesday with Day 2 of the AUD$10,000 Main Event. The field was stacked with the likes of Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier, Gus Hansen and Tony G taking their shot at the Southern Hemisphere’s most prestigious title.

Here’s a look at the action from Day 14 of the 2012 Aussie Millions Poker Championship:

Event #8: $10,000 Main Event Day 2

Thanks to a few late registrants, the 2012 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event officially drew 659 players. Day 2 began with a field of 314, all competing for their share of a $6.59 million prize pool with $1.6 million reserved for first place.

Former Aussie Millions Main Event champs Lee Nelson, Tyron Krost, Stewart Scott and Gus Hansen returned on Day 2, but only Nelson managed to survive the day, bagging up 432,500 chips. The first former champ to go was the 2009 champ Scott, who was all-in for his last 36,000 chips with and up against the of his opponent. The board ran out and Scott’s day came to an early end.

Tyron Krost, who had won a lifetime of Main Event buy-ins by taking down the 10th Anniversary Tournament of Champions a few days earlier, followed Scott out the door a short time later.

Gus Hansen opted to skip Day 1 altogether and take advantage of the one-level late registration on Day 2. Unfortunately for him, his day didn’t last long. "I busted the Great Dane," Tony G told us with his chest puffed out wide. "Gus always wants to move in, and I trapped him!"

It happened when Aage Ravn opened with a raise to 2,500 from middle position and Tony G looked down at in the small blind. He decided to call, and that sent the action over to Hansen's big blind. He had and put on a squeeze play with a bet of 10,000. Ravn folded, Tony G reraised all-in, and Hansen called off the rest of his short stack. The board ran out blank for Hansen, and his Main Event ended almost before it began.

Not long after, Jason Mercier was eliminated when his failed to overcome the of Tom Grigg. Other eliminations during the day included Sebastian Ruthenberg, JP Kelly, Van Marcus, Vitaly Lunkin, Annette Obrestad, JC Tran, David Bach, Tony G, Tom Dwan, and James Dempsey. The latter having finished as the Day 1b chip leader.

Seventy-four players will return for Day 3, and the man best positioned to capture the title is Tim O’Shea, who bagged up 921,000 in chips. With less than an hour left in the day, a monster pot took place that resulted in O'Shea vaulting into the chip lead. It happened when O'Shea opened from under the gun and Josh Barrett defended from the big blind. A raising war ensued on the flop before the was put out on the turn. At this point, Barrett check-called a bet of 125,000, and followed that up with another check-call of 150,000 on the river.

O'Shea rolled over for a straight, and Barrett inquired, "How do you have a six there?" Barrett revealed that he held and was clearly upset at losing the monster pot. With that, O'Shea is the tournament chip leader.

Others taking big stacks into Day 3 are Phil Ivey (778,500), Ravn (708,500), Jason Koon (667,500), Oliver Speidel (540,000), and Patrick Healy (521,000),

Day 3 of the Aussie Millions Main Event is set to get under way Thursday at 12:30 p.m. local time. The remaining 75 players are expected to break through the money bubble and begin their march to the final table. For a look at the full list of chip counts headed into Day 3, click here.

The $550 buy-in events have proven tremendously popular here at the Aussie Millions, and Event #14: $550 NLHE Terminator that took place on Tuesday was no exception. The event, which saw a $100 bounty on each player’s head, drew 224 players and created a prize pool of $112,000. Several notables entered the event, such as Peter Aristidou, Jackie Glazier, Ben Richardson, Andrew Demetrious, and our own Lynn Gilmartin. However, the big story turned out to be the deep run of Kevin Mathers, known to the poker world as “Kevmath” on Twitter. We’ll let the tweets tell the story:
